HOW IT ALL STARTED
A little food craving turned into a big Alaska adventure. And we wouldn't have it any other way.
OUR ROOTS
When the founders couldn't find the kind of gyro they were dreaming about on the Kenai Peninsula, they decided to make one. A conversation in Aaron's kitchen set the whole adventure in motion.
An early idea for a reindeer gyro gave the business its memorable name. The recipe took serious experimenting, and turning the dream into a working food truck required even more problem-solving.

The team prioritized relationships with Alaska growers and producers. Their story also honors Josi Hudson, who shared a family fry-bread recipe that became an important part of the Hut's early identity.
In spring 2023, The Reindeer Hut moved to its Sterling home at Moose Crossing. A covered dining pavilion followed, creating a place for locals, travelers and campground guests to gather.
In 2025, the business described an upgrade to The Caribou Caboose with espresso and a drive-through window in a permanent building. The sweet side is now part of the same destination.
